Top 8 reasons for doing joint mobility exercise

The conventional strength and conditioning community defines fitness by the following list of attributes: cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy/control. While these are undeniably important attributes of fitness, each requires one essential characteristic in order to function: mobility. Mobility is necessary in order to have any of the attributes of conventional fitness. Mobility is your very existence.

Here is my list of reasons for mobility training:

1.       Strength and power – without mobility, the muscle cannot maximally contract
2.       Sports and athletic performance – mobility enables speed, agility, coordination and accuracy.
3.       Range of motion and flexibility – these attributes are defined by mobility; you cannot have range or flexibility without it.
4.       Skill building – you cannot acquire or refine new skills without mobility.
5.       Pain prevention – diminished mobility increases pain. The body abhors immobility, and it sends messages in the form of discomfort or pain when you refuse to move.
6.       Circulation – without mobility, your lungs cannot breathe, your heart cannot pump, and your blood cannot circulate effectively.
7.       Joint health - Without mobility you cannot lubricate nor deliver nutrition to your connective tissue. Immobility kills you slowly.
8.       Slow the aging process – We are as young as our mobility!

Mobility is life! Move it or lose. How healthy are your joints? If you need help getting yourself moving the way you would like, check out Fit Forever. We have programs for every level.
